Rotenone also known as derris powder, it was formerly used as an organic insecticide used to control pests on crops such as peas. However, due to studies revealing its extreme toxicity, as well as due to the concentration level of rotenone to which the powder is often refined, experts in ecological and organic growing no longer consider it ecologically sound. Despite its toxicity, Derris is used as a food plant by the larvae of numerous Lepidoptera species.

Main Functions:
1. Rotenone is a selective,nonspecific insecticide with some acaricidal properties. Rotenone is used in home gardens for insect control, for lice and tick control on pets and for fish eradications as part of water body management.
2. Rotenone is a rotenoid plant extract obtained from such species as barbasco, cub, haiari, nekoe, and timbo. These plants are members of the pea (Leguminosae) family.
3. The use of the pesticide for control of fish and in cranberries is restricted by the Environmental Protection Agency.
4. Rotenone is generally classified as a botanical insecticide and it is a general use pesticide.
5. Rotenone containing extracts are taken from the roots, seeds and leaves of the various plants.

1. It has strong insecticidal ability, in agriculture,it is used for preventing and controlling many kinds of insect pests of cotton, fruit, vegetables, tobacco, mulberry, tea.
2. It is safe for people and livestock, preventing and curing the livestocks' parasitic ticks, ticks, cowhide maggots and sarcoptic mite, etc.
